This is just a collection of random information about Hobbits, not specifically pertaining to Pippin, but usually to at least his family.

Original (Shire) names (the names of Hobbits/all things Hobbity were "Englishized" by Tolkien when he "translated" them):
Took - Tûk
Shire - Sûza

Other names for Hobbits: Halflings (men), Periannath (Elves), Holbytla (Rohan; lit. means "Hole-builder")

In some old Hobbit families (ie. Tooks), it was the custom to give high sounding first names (ie. Peregrin), usually drawn from legends of past. They also often used comic contrasts between first-names and surnames.
